Don't spend it all in one place!

Tonight, I was going through an old cedar Bible box that I keep a few mementos in. I store the box on the top shelf of my closet. Every now and then I'll open it up and sift through the treasures that I keep in it. No, there is nothing of any monetary value, just a bunch of sentimental stuff. Some old love letters from my wife, some old cards from various people, old suspension notices from Gibbs High school, various ticket stubs from movies, concerts and such. But, as I was going through the box tonight, I happened upon an old Burger King book marker from 1979. The book marker got me to thinking about my Great Aunt Parlie and Uncle Adral.

I've blogged about Aunt Parlie and Uncle Adral before, but the memory that keeps coming to me is how Parlie used to give me a Quarter, or sometimes even a Dollar bill, and she'd always say, "now don't spend all of that in one place!" I guess she must've still been living in the 50's when from what I hear tell, you could buy an RC Cola and a MoonPie for 10 cents. Even in the '70's I would have been hard pressed not to spend the whole thing in one place. I can remember trying to think of things that were really cheap so that I could go into one store and buy something and then go into another and buy something else. Of course it never worked out that way. I always ended up spending it all in one place. Usually on a pack of Topps Baseball cards and one of those candy wax harmonicas.

Aunt Parlie and Uncle Adral, would often take us to the Burger King on Clinton Hwy. It was just down the road from their home on Allen Drive. My family didn't get to eat out very often so it was a real treat to be able to go to the Burger King. I would always order a single hamburger and small fries. I would savour every bite and morsel. I would always get one of those cardboard crowns and wear it on my head. Those were some good times back then.
