Steer clear of the red-eyed monster!

I told my wife last Tuesday that I was going to be coming down with a cold real soon. I can always tell before hand when I'm going to get sick. I am a natural bass but right before I get sick my voice becomes very "J.D." I have the urge to sing for hours, all in steady bass notes. If I ever record a professional CD, I need to do it the week before I get sick because I can really nail it then.

Anyways, I woke up Saturday morning feeling like someone had pulled a logging chain out of my throat in the middle of the night. It didn't stop me from going to the flea market with my son and my pal Jerry Butler though. I didn't feel good the entire day. Also during breakfast at Krystal's I kept feeling like something was in my eye. I even went to the bathroom to see if I could find what it was... nothing. Well when Sunday morning rolled around I woke up and both of my eyes were matted shut. My throat ached, my head hurt, and my ears were stopped up. "Oh no, how am I going to teach Sunday school and lead the choir this morning?" I asked Mary. She prayed, and I prayed, and we told the kids to pray. We were a bunch of praying Chesney's for sure.

I somehow made it through Sunday school without passing out and I did a decent job leading the choir. Probably most people didn't know that I was sick. I couldn't hit any of the high notes, I just dropped out whenever the music went high. By the time Sunday morning Worship services were over, I felt like an old worn out dog. We had special singing for Sunday night and I only had to lead about 4-songs so it wasn't too awfully bad but I sure did a bad job singing.

When Monday morning rolled around and it was time for work, my eyes were aching like I had been punched in the face. I looked in the mirror... I had the pink eye. Luckily we had some left over eye medicine from when the kids had the pink eye last year. My cold had really sunk in though, sneezing, coughing, head pounding, etc... I was determined to go to the office anyway and got ready and headed out to my truck. I jumped in, turned the key and nothing... it was completely dead. I decided to just call in for the day. I have been working from home ever since. Mary called my doctor and he called me in some Zithromax which seems to be helping.

I didn't go to church last night. It was really weird. I've only missed a handful of times in 3-years and it's always been due to work. This is the first time I've ever called in sick on a Wednesday night! I didn't even miss last year when I had the flu! I really didn't need to be around anybody at church. I think we spread waaaaay too many germs at church. I jokingly told the pastor one day that we needed to put in a hand cleaning station at the front of the church for people to use before they enter the sanctuary. I still think that's a good idea.

Hopefully I'll be over all of this junk by the weekend. Until then, you might want to steer clear!
