He's a brainiac, brainiac, I know
Today I had the pleasure of attending the 6th grade Awards Day at Holston Middle School. My son, Matthew, was being honored with an award. I got there early enough to score a seat on the very front row in the center, where I had the perfect view. First we were entertained by a choral presentation of, "I Want You Back/ABC," by the outstanding Holston choir. Then, it was on to giving out the awards. Lots of nice awards and certificates were handed out during the program. Of course the one that I really cared about was the one my son was going to receive.
Matt was awarded "Outstanding Achievement" in Honors Math. He sure didn't get the math skills from me, but his mother is really good in math. I'm glad it comes so easy for him because I have always struggled with it. I failed algebra in 8th grade and was sent to remedial math with the other bozos. Then in college I went to electronic school and had to learn Algebra, Calculus, and Trig from scratch. Not only that, I went back to college to get my B.S. in Technical Management and had to take even more math, including Accounting! YIKES. I just learn it enough to pass a test and then I forget it again. As soon as I run out of fingers and toes I'm completely baffled.
I had to attend the program while on my lunch break from work. I didn't have my trusty Canon SLR with me to take some awesome pictures but I did have my Blackberry and Mp3 player. So, I was able to get a few rough shots of ol' Matthew receiving his award and with my Mp3 player I was able to tape the sound of it being announced. I threw together a little video with the sound and pics:
