Won't You Ride In My Little Red Wagon?
I previously posted about my dad being my "guitar hero." This post is kind of a follow up to that one.
Dad had a very wide range of musical tastes. He would sing and play everything from country, bluegrass, and gospel, to jazz, rock, and even classical. One of the songs that I remember hearing him sing more than most, was "Won't you ride in my little red wagon?" It was an old Rex Griffin song that was made popular by '50's Country/Western Swing singer, Hank Penny. It was just a simple little song with a simple little message, but my sisters and I used to love to hear dad sing it, and so did my mother. I downloaded Hank Penny's version off of I-Tunes today and have been listening to it over and over. My dad sounds remarkably a lot like Hank Penny.
Below are the lyrics.
Won't You Ride In My Little Red Wagon?
Written by: Rex Griffin
As sang by: Hank Penny
Won't you ride in my little red wagon
I would love to pull you down the street
I'll bet all the kids will be jealous
When they see my playmate so sweet
Hold tight till we come to the hilltop
Then we're gonna coast down the hill, you and me
Won't you ride in my little red wagon
Cause you are my sweetheart to be
Hey won't you ride in my little red wagon
I would love to pull you down the street
I'll bet all the kids will be jealous
When they see my playmate so sweet
Hold tight till we come to the hilltop
Then we're gonna coast down the hill, you and me
Hey won't you ride in my little red wagon
Cause you are my sweetheart to be
I would love to pull you down the street
