What comes around goes around
I've often written about my grandfather, Rev. Edd Spencer, on this blog. Although he passed away in 1972 when I was only 6-years old, I still remember him very well. I wish he had of lived longer and I could have spent more time with him. But, I reckon God had bigger plans for Preacher Spencer.
Last week while I was studying for this past Sunday's sermon, I got out one of my papaw's old sermons. It is a very rough copy that I made from an old cassette tape. I have it in Mp3 format and uploaded to the Internet. You can give it a listen HERE. I have probably listened to that old sermon 100 times. Some parts of it I can't make out what he is saying, but most of it I can understand. The sermon is on Paul's Macedonian call, from Acts chapter 16. That is the message that I brought Sunday also. You can give mine a listen HERE. I borrowed a few phrases from my papaw and used them in my sermon. I figured if they were good enough for him 38-years ago, they were good enough for me today! As I stood behind the pulpit and preached the Word, I couldn't help but think of my papaw standing there so many years ago expounding from the same passage of Scripture. It brought me great comfort just thinking about it.
I'll never be half the man or preacher that my papaw Spencer was but I want to follow God's direction in my life. I sure am thankful to have such a wonderful upbringing and family history. I think that's important. Some folks may not think it matters much and that's alright if they want to believe that. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way. You know what they say, what comes around goes around!
